Overarching Theories
AKA, How did we get here? What is going on? How to explain all this... stuff?
  • Multiple universes: Fairy lies at a point of convergence between multiple universes, from which residents either passively fall or are actively taken.
    • Observations
      • Origins of residents
        • Clothing
        • Geographical references
        • Cultural/Historical references (confirmed from the past)
        • Racial differences (heretofore unknown ethnicity or species)
        • Unexplained/superhuman abilities (might get its own section at some point)
      • Travel between universes
        • That one time I was naked on a spaceship.
        • Arrivals
          • transitional/portal state - usually when walking through a door, turning down a street, etc. Never when you're just walking in the middle of a block/hallway, or just standing still.
          • individual - two people from the same world may arrive at around the same time, but never exactly together.
        • Disappearances (see resident index)
          • individual
          • unseen - not witnessed by outside parties (yet!)
      • Fictionality and/or multiple instances of residents - HIGHLY QUESTIONABLE
        • Fictionality = the existence of one resident in the universe of another resident, as a fictional character
          • A work of fiction should not be considered to be any resident's place of origin
            • Unless we really, really don't like that person.
          • "All characters appearing in this work are fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental." A resident is considered to have fictionality if their existence makes this disclaimer appear to be a baldfaced lie, whether or not the fictional work came with such a disclaimer.
            • Highly subjective, but then were you really expecting some kind of scientific test for this?
            • Critical areas of variance - differences between real and fictional versions of an individual in these areas may render them unrecognizable by some standards. Did I mention that this is DEFINITELY NOT A SCIENTIFIC PROCESS?
              • Name
              • Sex/gender
              • Country of origin
              • Life events
              • Relationships
        • Multiple instances
          • Same basic idea as above, except that two or more residents are so similar that it cannot be written off as a coincidence. All of the same caveats of subjectivity and critical areas of variance apply.
          • Do I need to say that we should probably not run around calling one person the original and the other a copy? I shouldn't need to say that.
        • Problems
          • What are the chances of that actually happening and the multiverse being saturated enough with multiple and fictional versions of various people that there is a significant chance of people bumping into themselves?
            • We actually don't know. This is an argument both ways.
    • Conclusions
      • Fairly sound; the existence of multiple universes is supported by modern scientific theory, and it does a better job of explaining observed phenomena than some more orthodox theories (such as the "we've all been kidnapped and this is an elaborate hoax" theory), but unlike some of these other theories it does not address unexplained or superhuman abilities beyond making note of their apparent existence. This doesn't mean that these phenomena can't be addressed, but that they will need to be treated as a separate entity - perhaps many separate entities.
      • So, which is it? Passive falling, or active taking?
        • I don't know; get off my case.
